At a time when the government of Spain has prompted an austerity plan with the pension freeze, reduction of social policies, cut salaries to civil servants and other workers in the public sector, with the intention of extending the retirement age 65 to 67 among other restrictive measures against the working classes, have re-emerged stronger voices in favor of privatization of public enterprises and services and for co-payment in public health.

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HEALTH POLICY (IAHP) and the FEDERATION OF ASSOCIATIONS FOR THE DEFENCE OF PUBLIC HEALTH (FADSP) wishes to express its most vigorous condemnation of the aggression by Israel in international waters to the "freedom fleet" that takes humanitarian aid to the population of Gaza.
This intolerable act is a flagrant violation of human rights and is an expression over the systematic violation of them by the Israel authorities.
We must remember that the fundamental premise for health is peace, and demand international intervention to end Israeli government actions are a disgrace to the civilized world and to ensure respect for fundamental human rights in Palestine.

The economic and financial crisis which affects all countries of the world is the result of economic globalisation and of international relations made hegemonic by ideology and neoliberal forces, which have in essence steered it towards the imposition of market relations, a reduced role for the state as a guarantor of human rights, the elimination of public services (education, health and social services) and the deregulation of economic and commercial relationships at an international level. Significant global organisations have played a part in this, including the World Trade Organisation, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, among others. These organisations have promoted the privatisation of public services (General Agreement on Trade and Services), the reduction of social spending, the casualisation of working conditions and the elimination of constraints upon the circulation of capital, in favour of freedom to speculate. |
